Suggested grade level: 1st and 2nd
Includes center sign, 40 opposite pairs and a matching worksheet.
Students match the opposite pairs and complete the worksheet. This center can also be used as a classroom game:
Mix up and hand out the opposite cards.
Ask children to read their card and to hold it so that all of their classmates can see it.
(I used a large font so that words can be seen from far away.)
Students must silently walk around the room searching for their opposite partner who is holding the match to the card they are holding.
Once the match is found both children must come to the teacher and read the opposite pair.
The teacher then gives each child another card to find a partner with. This game works great because it is a silent game. You can have the children whisper the word on their card for the non-readers.
My students loved playing games like this one!
This is the 2011-2012 Second Grade Reading Center Club center for the month of February.
It is available to purchase for non-members.
